Planned Purlhood – The Dishcloth

December 28, 2006

This is my take on the “random purl” dishcloth pattern, and the source of the name of this blog.

Materials:

1 ball variegated or printed yarn

size 7 or 8 needles

All slip stitches are slipped knit-wise.

Pick one color from the colorway in your yarn.

CO 35 sts

Slip first stitch in all rows knit-wise.  Purl last stitch in all rows.

Row 1 – 4: Work in garter stitch or seed stitch. (border)

Pattern Rows:  You will be knitting a stocking stitch cloth with the caveat that when you come to your chosen color on the LEFT needle, you will reverse the stitch (i.e. purl on knit rows, knit on purl rows).

Row 5:  Work 4 st border, K 28, work 4 st border.

Row 6:  4 st border, P28, 4 st border

Repeat rows 5 & 6 until nearly square, repeat Rows 1 -3, Cast off in border pattern.

Worked in variegated yarn

Worked in flecked/painted yarn.
