In well inked service

Yes, that’s inked. As in calligraphy ink. I’ve dove head into the wonderful world of SCA Scribal Arts. My first scroll is a comissioned work for Lady Eireannach’s Blasted Tree, and I just got another comission from a fellow House Red Fox member, Lady Meghan. Oh, and add the 30+ scrolls to be done for the gentles who were made Honorary Citizens of Wastekeep back in June. AND, anything that comes down the pipe from Kingdom level (just charters for now).

Good grief.

The H.C. Scrolls should be done (i.e. I want to get them done) for Baron’s Ball the first weekend in October. So too with Eirean’s scroll. If by some stroke of magic, I’ll get Meghan’s done, too, but most likely that will be ready at Mid-Winter’s Revel.

In other news, my sweet blind pigeon Rocky passed away on Friday last. She was never quite “right”, blind, and most likely brain damaged from whatever happened to her before she was found as a squeaker two springs ago. Her soft feathers, strutting to the sound of our voices, cooing when spoken to will be sorely missed. The stinky poos, not so much. Rest in peace, li’l pidge, I hope I gave you a life much better than you would have had otherwise.

More bird related stuff: Rico has finally grown her flights out enough that she can now motor FORWARD during flight instead of backwards and straight down. She’s a bit out of shape, but she’s fun to watch fly to and fro in her fluttering non-direct flight. Think drunk butterfly. Basil is doing what looks to be his bi-annual full moult, and is also getting a bit of lift when attempting to fly. I just hope he keeps his feathers longer this go around. One bad day with him, and they fall like so many autumn leaves. I found Hannah chewing delicately on a shed secondary feather this morning, so she’s been moulting too (however discretely it has been). My poor vacuum cleaner wore out another belt the other sucking up a couple bird’s worth of down and body feathers….and seed, and shredded toy parts. Gotta love the Hoovers.

Oh, and probably some very important news from a personal & social perspective. John and I have been invited to join Hús Himinljósnætr. This is a group of families that are dedicated to one another for the greater good of the whole. I just want to thank Kjartan for the honor of requesting our membership in such a House. I will fly our banner proudly.

Work is, well, work. Ass-numbing boredom [no joke here] can provide some interesting google searches, that’s all I can say. I picked up a shift on Sunday for an ill coworker. I can now say that I can be awake and functional for over 24 hours, with enough of the appropriate drugs, that is. Zombiedom lost out to comatose status by 8am, only 2 hours after crawling into bed. So, off today, then back for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday.

Family Fleischkuekle feed on Friday out at Uncle Paul’s estate, with what I can figure, the rest of the Lapp family plus 2 (not sure which two that is). I need to plot some dastardly food dish to contribute to the feast. Since it is a German Russian family, I should probably do something, oh, say, German Russian. *smirk*
